Introduction to Fiber Art
Instructor: Heather Beardsley

Explore a diverse range of traditional and non-traditional fiber and craft techniques that can be used to create images and collages on fabric.  Students will study a range of inclusive art references for inspiration. Some of the techniques taught include hand embroidery, image transfers onto fabric, cutwork, fabric collage, and solar printing with light-sensitive dyes. These are all methods that can be combined in different ways to make and embellish images on textiles. Students will be introduced to techniques through guided demonstrations and encouraged to experiment with to make individual work under the guidance of the instructor. Throughout the course, students will also share their work with class to practice talking about their art and receive peer feedback.
