Painting from Photographs: The Very Basics
Instructor: Karla Mann

In this introductory course, students will examine color theory and the color wheel to gain a broad understanding of color mixing.  Students will learn to choose workable photographs, map out a strong composition, and utilize the grid method to enhance painting accuracy.  Styles of paint application, types of brushes, and types of painting surfaces will all be explored so students learn to translate photographic images into canvas masterpieces in this course inspired by classic oil painting technique. Please bring several photographs of various sizes, a ruler, and something to write with for the first class, when other supplies will be introduced.  Basic painting and drawing experience is helpful, oil media only.
