Description

Ceramics I: Introduction for Beginners
Instructor: Lois Sharpe
This class is an introduction to the creative medium of clay and is designed for true beginners with no or very little ceramics experience. The first part of the class will be dedicated to learning the characteristics and possibilities of clay through hand building techniques that can be used to create functional ware or sculptural forms. As students’ progress they can make a decision about exploring the potter’s wheel or continuing on with hand building skills to find their own personal form of creative expression. Decorating, glazing and various firing options will be covered. Please note that this is small class with limited space and is designed for true beginners. If you have experience working in ceramics, please select for another course. Students are required to purchase a basic ceramics tool kit (available at Michael’s or Jerry’s Artarama). All clay must be purchased through MOCA.
