Compostable Materials: Bioplastics

Instructor: Annie Temmink

We all want ways to be more ecological with our work, but it can be daunting to know where to start or what to use. In this workshop, we'll explore the wild realm of compostable bioplastics and give you the confidence to explore these ecological materials in your future work. We'll start with an overview of various compostable materials including bioplastics, gelatin, and plant materials, and discuss how artists are using them now. Then you'll learn how to make your own. We'll work with a few simple ingredients to make samples you can use in your projects and we'll finish with resources for going further after the workshop.

This program has been organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and is supported, in part, by the Paul Mellon Endowment and the Jean Stafford Camp Memorial Fund.
